


Midway Art Association is excited to announce a Spring painting workshop with renowned
landscape artist John Hughes.
Dates: April 23-25, 2026 (Thursday, Friday, Saturday)
Time: 9-4 with hour lunch at noon
Location: Midway Town hall 120 W Main St. Midway UT and selected painting locations in
surrounding areas.
Levels: Intermediate to Advanced, but beginners will thrive as well.
Workshop Cost: $450, $375 for Midway Art Association Members
This 3-day workshop will focus on light, design, creativity, drawing, color, values, edges,
brushwork and seeing masses which will result in better compositions.
John will paint in oils, but all mediums can benefit because its principle-based information.
Class will start indoors with classroom instruction, but come prepared to paint outdoors. See

This is the perfect opportunity to study with one of Utah’s premier landscape artists to hone your skills before the Wasatch Plein Air Paradise festival in June/July.

With over 40 years of experience as both a plein air and studio artist, John Hughes brings a lifetime of painting wisdom to any workshop he teaches. A passionate educator, John has taught extensively at institutions like the Scottsdale Artists’ School, Salt Lake Community College, and numerous workshops in California, Utah, Montana and Wyoming.
John is also a prolific writer on the subject of painting tips, having published nearly 100 articles in respected outlets such as Fibonacci Fine Arts Digest, 15 Bytes, and Outdoor Painter. His work and expertise have been featured in both national and international publications, including Plein Air Magazine and Pratique Des Arts. His work was recently featured in the book, Painters of Grand Teton National Park, by Donna and James Poulton.
